Kylie launches bed linen line
Pop princess Kylie Minogue was in London to unveil her own line of luxurious bed linen, Kylie At Home
Kylie Minogue has launched her own line of luxury bed linen.
The diminutive pop princess unveiled her new range at a glitzy launch party in London, saying the experience had been "a joy".
"I have a creative spirit and I love new challenges. I thought it would be amazing," said the 39-year-old, whose range includes glittery duvet covers and sequin-studded pillows.
"This exceeded my expectations. It was fantastic."
Kylie, who was wearing a short cream feathered dress, said of the creative process: "I invited the design team to my home and took them around my house, showing them all the things I love, so many things that could give them an idea of what home meant to me, anything inspirational from my wallpaper to my boxes of clothes."
However, while the stylish singer is thrilled about her new project, she said "performing is still my top priority".
Kylie also denied she was back in the arms of her ex-boyfriend Olivier Martinez. The pair were pictured together in Paris last week, a year after their break-up. But the star said she had no plans to start a family with the French film star.
"I had dinner with my ex-boyfriend and next thing I know there's a debate about whether we're having a family," she said. "We didn't even talk about that. As I've maintained, we're friends."
The Kylie At Home range hits shops later this month.
Getting into bed with Kylie
Kylie Minogue's bed linen range features lots of diamantes, sparkling sequins and intricate embroidery
Millions of men dream of snuggling up to Kylie Minogue - and now it's almost possible.
But the pop princess's new range of bed linen is more likely to appeal to women, with its combination of diamantes, sparkling sequins and intricate embroidery. In fact, as she launched the range in London, Kylie joked that now women as well as men would be able to get into bed with her.
The star's collection includes several different designs, and it seems the 39-year-old songstress hasn't picked her favourite yet.
"I don't have it on my bed yet but I will do!" she smiled.
We take a look at the Kylie At Home collection.
:: Sequins
The sequinned range will appeal to the Showgirl in all of us, conjuring up notions of disco balls and glitter with its sequins and diamantes.
Kylie has always been known for her love of sparkle, making headlines with twinkly numbers like the gold lame hotpants she wore in the Spinning Around video to the crystal-studded corset she wore for her Showgirls tour in 2004.
:: Wild Flower
The Wild Flower range is described as "Art Nouveau meeting contemporary weave" and comes in a pretty floral design.
Kylie, who says she has "always loved fabrics", and her team have used iridescent material to capture the light - creating some of the theatrical glamour fans have come to associate with the singer.
:: Deco
The Deco line is inspired by Art Deco and aims to "bring a little 1920s glamour" to any bedroom.
Kylie herself has an Art Deco theme for her own sleeping quarters. She recently told Woman And Home magazine: "I decided to go very feminine in my bedroom, but keeping it ultra chic. That is, when it's not overrun with suitcases and clothes! I have always had a separate walk-in wardrobe so I have the luxury of a fairly sparse bedroom."
:: Chandelier
Chandelier focuses on the romance and elegance of the silver screen, with taffeta and diamantes in abundance. It's available in metallic tones and slate.
:: Tiger
The Tiger collection, described as "dynamic yet sophisticated" is made from luxurious cotton and includes opulent velvets and chenille to create a cosy feel.
:: Sicily
This decadent range sees "silky black and caramel layers offset beautifully with broderie anglais", which is also featured on the pillows and cushions.
Its aim is to transform a bedroom into a "sumptuous boudoir".
:: Vintage
For a star known for her love of vintage fashion, it's no surprise to discover a vintage-style bedroom set in Kylie's first bed linen range.
She told Woman And Home magazine that "travels and vintage finds" were the inspiration behind her linen range.
The collection, described as "totally gorgeous and feminine", uses layers of glimmering golden organza, diamantes and corsage and bow cushions to create a feel of pure elegance.
The many talents of Kylie
Kylie Minogue launched her fragrance, Darling, in 2007 and has since unveiled a follow-up scent, Sweet Darling
Kylie Minogue's ability to transform herself has become the stuff of showbiz legend.
The pint-sized Aussie babe has successfully turned a soap stint into one of the most glittering pop careers in recent years, and she's since added perfumes and clothing lines to her CV.
We take a look at some of Kylie's many talents.
:: Music
Kylie released I Should Be So Lucky in 1987 and it rocketed up the charts all over the world. The bubblegum pop played on the Neighbours star's girl-next-door charm and proved a massive hit with fans.
However, by the 90s the singer was waving goodbye to her squeaky clean image and edgier numbers such as 1994's Confide In Me followed.
Then in 2000 came the track (and the outfit) that was to catapult her to new heights of stardom - disco-classic Spinning Around. The video, featuring the songstress writhing around in a pair of revealing gold lame hotpants, made a huge splash.
Massive hits like Can't Get You Out Of My Head have followed and Kylie has won countless music accolades, including MTV Awards, Brits and Grammys.
Last year she was honoured as a music idol at the Q Awards.
:: Acting
While she rose to fame as dungarees-clad Charlene in Australian soap Neighbours, Kylie had previously starred in TV shows such as Skyways, The Henderson Kids and The Sullivans.
She has also cropped up in movies such as 1989's The Delinquents and last year released her own film, White Diamond. White Diamond showed Kylie's triumphant return to the world stage with her 2006 Showgirl Homecoming Tour (after her battle with breast cancer) and includes intimate backstage footage and interviews.
And Kylie recently starred in hit sci-fi show Doctor Who, playing Astrid, a waitress onboard the Titanic.
:: Perfume
Last year Kylie launched her perfume Darling which, fittingly, came in a bottle shaped like a pert bottom.
The singer unveiled the fragrance at London's swanky Harrods store, where some fans had queued all night to get their hands on a signed bottle.
A Harrods spokesman said at the time: "Some of them were here before midnight and queued all night. It shows how loved she is by her fans."
A few months later the star unveiled a second scent, Sweet Darling, in the UK.
:: Underwear
The Love Kylie range of underwear was launched in the UK in Selfridges to a massive media frenzy in 2003 - it was reported that demand far exceeded supply with Selfridges doubling their orders.
William Baker, Kylie's stylist and a designer for the range, has said of the opulent line: "I feel that it has become more of a brand now and one that exists separately of Kylie the pop star, that stands on its own merits; the quality of design, fabric and fit."
:: Swimwear
Last year Kylie starred in a sexy promotional shot for a new beachwear line for H&M.
The petite singer modelled for the shots on a beach in Mexico. H&M said they had chosen the singer to model the special H&M Loves Kylie swimwear range as a tribute to her courage.
:: Books
In 2006 Kylie penned a children's book called The Showgirl Princess.
She later revealed it was therapeutic writing the book - about a young girl's rise to fame - while she was recovering from breast cancer treatment.
The BBC quoted her as saying: "I met with publishers while I was having treatment, it was therapeutic to be working on something."
Kylie's changing image
Kylie Minogue wore a skimpy black dress for her sizzling duet with US star Justin Timberlake at the Brit Awards
Kylie is a queen of reinvention when it comes to her chameleon like style.
And now the singer has unveiled a new bed linen range that has been designed to "reflect the glamour and sophistication she brings to the stage".
We take a look at some of Kylie's best known images.
:: Dungarees
When Kylie burst onto our TV screens as tomboy mechanic Charlene Robinson in Neighbours, her trademark outfit was oil-streaked blue denim dungarees and large hoop earrings. She was an unlikely star - but with her big blue eyes and bubble perm, she captured the imagination of the public.
:: White cotton muslin dress
Kylie wore a white dress with outsized pockets for the video for I Should Be So Lucky.
Copies of the dress started popping up everywhere and many a teenage girl dashed out for a perm, flung on her Kylie dress and dreamed of being the star.
:: Brunette
In the late 90s Kylie sported an unmistakable darker hair colour - though not quite brunette, she certainly didn't have the golden tresses we're more used to seeing her with today.
The darker hair went hand-in-hand with a brief period of a slightly more conservative look for the star, who was often seen out in sophisticated black dresses and classic-looking shifts at the time.
:: Gold lame hotpants
The buttock-hugging satin shorts Kylie wore for her Spinning Around video in 2000 are the most photographed pop fashion item of the last 25 years.
The item, which she picked up for just a few pence, helped complete her transformation from soap actress turned pop singer to global icon.
:: Little black dress
Kylie's duet with Justin Timberlake was one of the highlights of the Brits in 2003.
The star wore a short black and silver number that showed off her curves to perfection, and gyrated with Justin through a sexy rendition of his chart hit Cry Me A River and Blondie's Rapture.
Justin got to grab the singer's much-admired butt during the show - but it was Kylie who grabbed all the headlines.
:: White hooded jump-suit
The white all-in-one piece that Kylie wore for Can't Get You Out Of My Head in 2001 is considered her most important outfit by original co-curator of the show Janine Barrand.
"It just looks like a piece of white material," she said. "But when she puts it on it becomes something else."
:: Feathers
At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, Kylie wowed the crowd - and an estimated 3.7 billion viewers - with her vocals, not to mention her skimpy pink outfit, which she wore with a cloak of feathers.
She performed a cover of Abba's Dancing Queen and her single On A Night Like This at the closing ceremony of the games.
:: Crystal-studded corset
Kylie wore a blue satin corset with sprays of star-shaped Swarovski crystals and sequins designed by John Galliano for her Showgirls tour in 2004. The £30,000 creation had every sequin hand-stitched and took months to make.
But it wasn't the star's bottom that was the centre of attention this time - all the talk was surrounding the singer's tiny waist.
:: The crop
After treatment for breast cancer, Kylie was often seen out wearing a headscarf. But she soon abandoned the scarves to reveal an elegant short crop. It was reported that Kylie initially disliked her shorter style, but her sister, singer and X Factor judge Dannii, convinced her it was a good look.
