When Take That announced they were splitting in 1996, it was at the height of their success. Having had a string of hits with Could It Be Magic, Pray, It Only Takes A Minute, Relight My Fire, Sure, Back For Good (we could go on), the public were distraught. The event made the national news and a special Samaritans line was set up for fans to cope with the news.

With 10 years behind them though, no one knew how warmly a Take That reunion would be received, least of all the boys in Take That. Howard Donald said the band weren't sure what to expect when they announced their first live shows: "We just released a few dates to start with, but they just sold like hot cakes so we had to release the others straight away. We were overwhelmed by it all."

These live shows proved to all how much affection and interest still existed for Take That, but it was the release of their new album, Beautiful World at the end of 2006 which proved that Take That were not merely raking over old ground. As Jason Orange pertinently put it: "You can sell a tour on nostalgia, and we did. But you can't sell new material based on nostalgia. It's got to be quality."

Beautiful World became the 2nd best-selling album of both 2006 and 2007, with the massive singles Patience, Shine, I'd Wait For Life and the current single Rule The World (featured on the Stardust soundtrack).
