Party-loving popstars

The world of rock and pop music is synonymous with hedonism, debauchery and all-round excess. From Elvis' snake hips to Madonna's photo-book, from Janis Joplin to our own Amy and Pete, sex and drugs have always gone hand-in-hand with rock 'n' roll.

- Check out our pick of the top party-loving popstars

Amy Winehouse, Keith Richards and Courtney Love

With the advent of the '60s came a colourful explosion of music, fashion, art and counter- culture, fuelled by a hallucinogenic diet of LSD, cannabis and booze. The next few decades saw the rise of cocaine, ecstasy, amphetamines and heroin, with musicians young and old finding it hard to resist their lure.

There are however, a select breed of hedonists who have taken things that bit further than everyone else. They have pushed their minds and bodies to the limit in search of rock 'n' roll nirvana. Some have lived to tell the tale, others, sadly, have not. Some are still at it, while others have chosen to leave it in the past. Here, we select our favourite hard partying personalities past and present, and relive some of the reasons they belong to this select club.
