Air Traffic
Watch an exclusive AOL Music Session with exciting newcomers Air Traffic with six live performances of songs from their debut album Fractured Life.
Air Traffic closed out 2006 with a satisfying checklist of achievements. Jools Holland appearance, check; support from the likes of Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley, check; album recorded and ready for release, check. So, to 2007 and time to build on the impressive releases of Just Abuse Me and Never Even Told Me Her Name, Charlotte and latest single Shooting Stars.
Born out of the wilds of Bournemouth, the band were very much left to their own devices to come up with their own style as the town lacks any major music venues and so the direct influences are minimal. That said, the energy in performances and quality of song writing definitely tip a hat towards Radiohead.
Mid-afternoon in central London, the band arrive and we plunge them into a series of things that go to make up an AOL Session - interviews, pictures, rehearsals and, of course, the key part of the whole affair the live performance.
And, having seen the band live, we knew we were in for a good session as they chatted with the specially invited audience before launching into the first track No More Running Away. It's a big, bold anthemic song that shows the confidence of the band.
Next up is Never Even Told Me Her Name, which captures the excitement and events surrounding the guys as their music career really began to take off. Then it was back to the piano for singer Chris Wall as they belted through early single Charlotte. A song that was key in the band deciding that they really had something worth shouting about.
Live, the band already have a strong reputation and one of the songs that always draws crowd participation is the next track Just Abuse Me, and then barely drawing breath they launch into the powerful Get In Line. After barely 20 minutes, we reach current single Shooting Stars.
And with that, we were done. A quick one-two and Air Traffic have punched through some stunning highlights from debut album Fractured Life. In the process, they confirm in the best way possible that short, sharp well-crafted songs can say as much as any six-minute opus. A real knock-out, enjoy the videos.
