Lady Sovereign
Having spent 18 months in the USA under the wing of Def Jam supreme Jay-Z, Lady Sovereign is back in the UK with a new album and a confidence to match.
Don't be fooled by Lady Sovereign's small stature, she's bristling with energy and things she wants to say. Being a female rapper is hard enough but to face down the maestro Jay-Z in his own office and get signed to legendary rap label Def Jam shows clearly that this is not a lady to be messed with.
We've set aside a small section of East London to get a live performance to demonstrate just what the UK has been missing for the past few months. New album Public Warning has been a long time in the making but from her setup and show, it's obvious that she's ready and raring to get stuck into presenting her wares to all and sundry.
"I like the attention when I'm performing, I like the fact that people are there to see me. I quite like performing Pretty Vacant but Public Warning is my favourite - cause it's mad, it's just wild and makes me feel....I dunno," she says with a grin and a shrug of the shoulders. Check out the energy on show in our behind the scenes feature.
Despite feeling a little under the weather, Lady S runs through a number of tracks for the camera including album title track Public Warning, first single Love Me Or Hate Me and a stirring cover of the Sex Pistols' Pretty Vacant. There are three more tracks to follow, so enjoy the live band backing the official biggest midget in the game and check back for more soon!
