Born and raised in the gritty urban landscape of West-side Chicago, Illinois, 25 year old Lupe (born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco) grew up listening to Ice Cube and Spice 1 before gravitating towards the more considered likes of Jay-Z and Nas. He was signed to Atlantic Records in 2004 and his debut, Food and Liquor was produced by his one-time mentor, Jay-Z and garnered him a heap of Grammy nominations, including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for Kick Push.
Lupe's second album, The Cool is inspired by a standout track from Food and Liquor, also called The Cool and is a concept album (no, keep reading) described as a "hustler-turned zombie epic". No we haven't got a clue what that means either! To get a taster of the songs from The Cool, plus Kick Push, plus a look behind the scenes of his session, watch Lupe Fiasco playing live and exclusively now. Lupe Fiasco's album The Cool is out on 21 January.
