Maroon 5
It's been a while in the making but Maroon 5 are following up the staggering success of Songs About Jane with new album It Won't Be Soon Before Long, watch the boys in action with live performances from both albums.
Adam Levine is in a playful mood, testing our tolerance for swearing by working his way up, or down, from Goddamn into far fouler areas of language. He's feeling a little peaky and so when asked to do Makes Me Wonder again by his bandmates, the language starts. However, it's all fun and he duly delivers the goods on the next take.
It's been five years since the band's debut, Songs About Jane which brought a Grammy nomination and big sales especially with singles like She Will Be Loved dominating the airwaves on both sides of the Atlantic. And the variety and flexibility of the band's music is still very much in evidence: "The lyrics are darker and the songs are more danceable, which makes for, in my opinion, the best pop songs," says Adam.
The band's stop-start approach to the new album has yielded the goods though as performances of new single Makes Me Wonder and Wake Up Call from it clearly show. To balance out a great Sessions set, they finish with She Will be Loved and This Love from their debut long player. There's a relaxed confidence about the band who seem to know they're onto another winner with the new collection of songs.
Tongue still slightly in cheek, Adam concludes the proceedings with these words: "This is rock 'n' roll and we are perfect." Who are we to argue.
