Natasha Bedingfield
One of Britain's finest musical exports, Natasha Bedingfield has spent nearly two years in the USA, but she's back on home soil with the excellent album NB under one arm. Deep in London's heart she put on a stunning live show for this AOL Music Session.
Success has been both sudden and hard earned for Natasha. Debut album Unwritten went off like a rocket, fuelled by the successive hits Unwritten, These Words and Single around the world. However, she spent more than 18 months touring that album and honing her live show and that time has been well spent, she's stepped up as a performer and writer, creating a new set of songs showing the changes in her life and style.
The proud independence of Unwritten remains but with NB the story moves on with tales of love sought, found and lost and all brought to life through that extraordinary voice of hers. Written and recorded in Los Angeles, NB is musically more than a match for her debut with beats, ballads and a sense of humour polished by pin-point production. The album's creation was pretty painless as she explains: "I lived right by the beach where I was working, so I could head straight into the studio every morning. The way I write is I brainstorm and jam it out, and it helps to have everything set up to capture the moment."
AOL Music is delighted to present part one of our session recorded in London with two tracks from NB - I Wanna Have Your Babies, Soul Mate and the mega-huge hit Unwritten, sung on the night for the man it was written for - her brother. Part two, coming online in a few weeks will include four more songs and an interview with the lady herself, including tales of jamming with Prince!
Happy to be on home soil, she put on a show for a crowd, that included friends and family, which demonstrated that those months on the road have been put to good use and that live she's a formidable presence. Driven by brilliant backing from her band, she opened with Unwritten before unveiling new songs Say It Again, the cheeky and delightful How Do You Do and then the classic These Words.
We were then back to new songs with first single I Wanna Have Your Babies and Soul Mate before a simply stunning version of Wild Horses to close out the set and leave the room breathless. Quiet and modest in person, Natasha Bedingfield is, simply put, the real deal when you put her behind a microphone.
