Snoop Dogg
For Snoop Dogg it's simple - "The secret is just being real you know?"
Please note: These videos contain material of an adult nature.
Snoop's profile in the celebrity world over the past few years has been sky high with tales of Victoria Beckham forbidding David to go on the razz with Snoop for fear of what trouble he might get into among many others. The truth, according to Snoop, is that the music comes first, everything else is just gravy.
Long Beach's finest, Snoop Dee Oh Double Gee, rolls up to the AOL Los Angeles studio a little later than planned, OK two hours, but when it's Mr Dogg, you know to make some allowances. Among those allowances is the fact that his language is plain and simple not clean, so those of a nervous disposition please be warned that the videos contain some very strong language.
His entourage are milling around, waiting for the man to appear but then word spreads quickly that he's already on stage and ready to go. Musicians tune up, everyone gets to the stage double quick time and we're ready to roll.
For fourteen years, Snoop Dogg has been making some fine music and it's staying open to the possibilities that's part of his secret: "If I see an artist over here and I say, 'Well he's got a hot record,' I don't have no problem with going up to him and telling him, 'Hey man, I like your music and I want to work with you. Can we make some music?"
"I did it my own way, my own rules. That's why you hear Snoop on so much music right now, because I'm cool with everybody, and that's the relationship that I created from just being a man," he says.
Snoop's no slacker on any front, especially when it comes to playing live. He works his live set hard and apart from the six songs in this Session, he played for nearly three hours, including some freestyling over the Charlie Brown and Pink Panther themes, Sheila E's The Glamorous Life and much more besides. "I don't want to be just a rapper that knew how to rap good but ain't got no stage show. I want people to leave my show saying 'That was the best rap show I've ever been to'," says Snoop.
With a top-notch live band, a pocket full of hit tunes and an attitude to keep on getting better, it's likely that Snoop will remain riding high for some time to come.
