The Fratellis
They only played their first gig in 2005, but now Glaswegian threesome The Fratellis look destined for big things.
When Jon Fratelli (vocals/guitar), Barry Fratelli (bass) and Mince Fratelli (drums/backing vocals) performed their session for us, their manager explained they were not used to performing in front of cameras. They had better get used to it, because this band are building up a reputation for giving dynamite live performances.
Are they brothers? Well, apparently Barry is the only true Fratelli and the others have adopted the name. Is the band named, as they told us in their Sessions interview, after Jon's dad's ice-cream parlour? Or are they named after The Goonies? Did they start out playing at weddings? "We're not a band that sings about real life," says Jon Fratelli. "Great rock n' roll is all about escapism, isn't it?" The Fratellis' story is all a bit mythical.
What is not mysterious is the popularity of this new band. After only releasing one EP in April this year, the trio had fans "spilling out of the tent" at the Carling Weekend Reading Festival, according to the NME. The Fratellis' debut album, Costello Music, has been produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air) and is out on 11 September.
We've got a full session of tracks for you to check out, including the singles, Henrietta, and the recently released, Chelsea Dagger, which has just climbed 20 places in the midweek charts. Plus you can catch our interview with the band and take a peek behind the scenes.
So what next for The Fratellis? The band are supporting Kasabian on their forthcoming arena tour, so will they follow the Leicester rockers and be headlining festivals and arenas this time next year? Watch their session and watch this space...
