The Fray
The Fray have emerged as front-runners from the US music scene, driven in no small part by the success of the smash-hit single, How To Save A Life. With the release of their new single, Look After You, take a look at their atmospheric live session and watch an interview.
As easy going as they are talented, The Fray were happy to play their music for this AOL Music Session any way we wanted, so we plumped for a slightly stripped-down acoustic set to allow plenty of breathing room inside the tunes and give you a different experience of the songs from their hugely successful album.
For every session, we build a new set and the design for this one came much like an idea appears in a cartoon - with a light bulb. A plain black backdrop with scores of low-light bulbs hanging at varying heights provided a beautiful and most apt setting for the band. Success has come quickly for the band, but even so there was a short period of time where everything hung in the balance. Isaac says: "We were about to call it quits for a while there, we put a timeline on it, but fortunately it happened." However, they're not taking anything for granted, "I still think 'are we going to last for a long time', because there are bands that will hit it big and the disappear. We're just trying to figure out how to last a long time and how to be relevant in 10 years from now," chips in Joe.
That success, as for many bands these days, has been fuelled to an extent by the Internet: "We jumped on MySpace really early and we jumped on YouTube with as many videos that we could get out there. Our fans are really computer savvy. I don't know what it was like 10 years ago but nowadays you find out more about bands on the Internet than you do from magazines. It's definitely a vital channel," says Isaac.
With the talking done, it was time to get down to business and you can watch the band perform tracks from the How To Save A Life album including Over My Head (Cable Car), the mega single How To Save A Life, Heaven Forbid and the new single, Look After You. These are crazy days for The Fray but they're enjoying the ride.
