MTV Video Music Awards 2009
The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards - known for their headline-grabbing moments - did not disappoint this year, with Kanye West storming onto the stage to interrupt Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for winning Best Female Video.
It was the night's first award and the country star was left speechless when West came up on stage and said: "I'm really happy for you, I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time." Swift was escorted off the stage. Later on, when Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' was named Video of the Year, the singer called Swift back on stage to finish her speech.
The ceremony, which took place at New York's Radio City Music Hall and was hosted by Russell Brand, kicked off with a tearful and heartfelt tribute from Madonna to Michael Jackson calling the King of Pop "a hero". The tribute ended with a performance of 'Scream' from Janet Jackson.
There were energetic performances from VMA veterans Beyoncé, Green Day and Pink. Best New Artist winner Lady GaGa, who rarely fails to surprise, unveiled her hit 'Paparazzi' complete with fake blood dripping from her ribcage.
